International Linking
‘There should be no poor among you, for in the land the Lord your God is giving you to possess as your inheritance, he will richly bless you’ Deuteronomy 15:4‘Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.’ Matthew 28 19-20
What is International Linking?
St Georges believes that International Linking is communicating, praying for, loving, learning from and resourcing appropriating, with time, people and money, our church family and friends in all parts of the world.
Why does St Georges think this is important? St George’s is committed to bringing God’s kingdom to Earth by praying and acting towards making the world a fair and just place, where no-one lives in poverty and the love of the Lord Jesus is known to all people, as God intended it to be. As a congregation, we feel strongly that overseas mission and development is not only a good and beneficial activity, but it what we are being called to do. • St Georges speaks out and acts against poverty and injustice. • St Georges seeks to evangelise and disciple to all people in all parts of the world • St Georges believes that God called his people to ‘love your neighbour as yourself’.

How will this be funded?
The Parish Parochial Council (PCC) has kindly given a grant to the International Linking Team in order to do the following- 1. Support evangelistic activities of international partners or church organisations 2. Support international development projects and/ or partners 3. Develop and maintain relationships and partnerships with international church family and friends (through prayer, communication, updates, briefings, debriefings, training development workers, short term mission or other activities that members of the congregation are called to do)

What will International Linking be in practice?
In practise this has meant that St Georges has been able to support with prayer, regular communications and financial support former members of St Georges congregation (who are still very much part of the wider St Georges family!) in their work in bible translation in South East Asia, with Wycliffe Bible Translators and work with the disabled community in Central Asia with Operation Mercy.
We are continuing to develop the partnership with the Mutanga Nord church in Burundi with exchange visits of the members of the Burundi church coming to the UK with International Alpha and visits from members of St Georges to Burundi.
We have also been able to support the humanitarian and reconstruction effort following the earthquake in Haiti through a one off grant to the humanitarian and development agency Tearfund.
As Holborn is such a diverse and multi cultural parish, we intend to further develop links and support the church in other parts of the world, in particular Bangladesh, as Holborn has such a thriving Bangladeshi community. This will be done through Tearfund who have been working in Bangladesh for many years, supporting the work of the Bangladeshi church in responding to changing weather patterns and flooding with disaster risk reduction initiatives.

How can I get involved?
If you are keen to know more about the work of the International Linking Team, please do not hesitate to get in touch. We are always keen for interested people to join the team.
Please also get in touch if you are in contact with a particular international project or if you are thinking of embarking on an overseas mission or development project. We would love to pray for you and tell others in the congregation about your work.
If you would like to apply for financial support for an international linking initiative there is an application form available in the Church Office or from one of the members of the International Linking Team, who will consider all applications with guidance from the PCC, taking into account the limited budget.
