DRAW NEAR
HOLY COMMUNION for the CONTEMPORARY CHURCH
"...let us draw near to God with a
sincere heart in full assurance of faith"
Hebrews 10.22
One of the more exciting features of contemporary church life is the way that different strands of the Christian church who have not had much to do with each other are now talking to each other and learning from one another. More traditional churches are looking to engage with appropriate patterns and models of contemporary worship and churches like ours at St George’s Holborn are rediscovering something of our roots and heritage in more ancient and more liturgical practice.
This album is an exciting expression of this kind of fusion. St George’s has brought together a talented group of friends and fellow-musicians who, through years of leading worship together, have produced an album which manages to combine Anglican liturgy with all the freedom and life of a more modern expression of worship.
The purpose of this recording is not simply to add another worship album to the market. The vision is that the songs on this album could be a resource for those churches which would like to find a way into a fresher style of worship, while helping less traditional churches rediscover some more ancient strengths that have been lost in recent years. The songs follow the Anglican Eucharistic liturgy and the whole album can be seen as a journey to the cross of Christ through a service of Holy Communion.
Rev'd John Valentine, Priest-in-Charge, St George's Holbborn.
